How To Use Spotify’s Playlist Submission Feature

Find out how to submit your track for consideration by Spotify playlist curators.

Getting your music featured on playlists is one of the best ways to grow your fan base and get your music heard by as many people possible.

And thanks to Spotify’s new Playlist Pitching Tool, gone are the days when artists needed connections with playlist curators or help from their record label to get their tracks featured. The tool lets independent artists submit their music for consideration to be featured on the best playlists curated by the Spotify editorial team.

What Does The Playlist Pitching Tool Do?

The Playlist Pitching Tool is designed to make the playlist curation process fair, opening up the submission process to every artist (not just those supported by a record label or network of connections!). Everyone, whether you’re an artist, label or manager, can submit an unreleased song for consideration by the editorial playlist curators. Spotify has over 100 editors around the world — music experts and cultural ambassadors whose job is to spread music everywhere from Brazil to Japan to Turkey.

How Do I Submit My Track To Spotify Playlists?

1. The first step of submitting your track to Spotify playlists is to log in to Spotify for Artists on desktop. Then, there are three ways to find and submit a song (note: you can only submit unreleased music).

2. At the top of the Home tab, select ‘SUBMIT A SONG’ next to the release you want to submit.

3. In the Profile tab, hover over the release you want to submit and click the three dots (...). Select SUBMIT A SONG.

4. In the catalog tab, under UPCOMING, select SUBMIT A SONG next to the release you want to submit.

Additional Important Steps for Spotify Playlist Submission

Once you’ve selected your songs for submission, it’s important to include as much information about the track as possible. The more information you include in your submission, the better chance it has of being discovered by one of the curators.

1. Nominate your genre
2. Describe the mood of the track
3. List any instruments used in the song
4. Set any cultures your release fits
5. Add any other data points that may help the playlist curators discover your track and consider it for fit across their playlists.

What Happens After I’ve Submitted My Music?

Nice juan! Your track is now on its way to being discovered and heard by ~millions~. Editors will now be searching through submissions based on the information you shared to consider new tracks for their playlists.

Bonus tip: If you submit your song seven days in advance, the track will automatically appear in every one of your followers’ Release Radar playlists. Make sure you work with your music distribution service to ensure your track is delivered to Spotify before the deadline. The earlier you submit your track the better!
