Amuse surpasses 50,000 automated royalty advances, fast-forwarding more than $10 million to DIY and independent artists
Amuse’s automated royalty advance service is the only one to include YouTube royalties, expanding access and advance sizes
Amuse today announced a major milestone for the company’s automated royalty advance service for DIY and independent artists. Since launching its pioneering Fast Forward feature in 2019, Amuse has delivered more than 50,000 data-driven advances, putting over $10 million USD directly into artists’ hands without requiring a record deal.
Typically, extracting royalty payments from digital streaming platforms is a painfully slow process for independent artists: a Spotify royalty that happens in January normally takes over three months to materialise for the artist, and for some other streaming services, the delay is even longer. This means artists who don’t have an advance from a record deal cannot access their royalties in real time, a lag that can stall sudden momentum and have a negative impact when it comes to planning marketing, production and new releases.
Since its launch, Amuse’s data-driven royalty advance feature Fast Forward has remained a smooth solution to this problem. Thanks to the streaming data Amuse collects from its distribution service, Amuse is able to analyse over 100 billion data points to calculate an artist’s future royalties and take out advances ranging from as low as $10 to tens of thousands of dollars. This gives artists the freedom to invest into studio time and production to release new music, boost their marketing efforts to capture momentum, jump on last minute opportunities - or even just pay their bills.
Beginning this month, Amuse has added YouTube royalties to Fast Forward’s calculations, making it the only automated royalty advance service on the market to include all three of the biggest music streaming services. The update broadens eligibility to more artists on the platform and increases potential advance amounts for existing users. A truly user-friendly product, artists on Amuse can access the advances easily through a few simple taps in the company’s app, and have the money in their account within 2 business days.
“The Fast Forward feature that Amuse offers has really helped me to have future royalties readily available to invest in my music. It's one of the only distributors I've seen that offers this convenience to artists. Amuse helped me a lot at the beginning of my career to buy my equipment, and I'm very grateful”, says Colombian hip hop artist UNIVERSE, recently featured in a Spotify Radar Times Square billboard.
To date, Amuse has paid out 50,000 advances through the service, totalling $10 million paid out to independent DIY artists using the platform. A popular service with Amuse’s DIY platform, more than half of artists who accept an advance go on to recoup and take a new one. On average, Fast Forward users return for at least four advances.
Jonatan Bodvill, Head of Tech at Amuse, commented: “Independent artists have so much to contend with in today’s market, and not being able to access your royalty payments when you need them most can be the difference between taking the next step in your career, or missing the opportunity. With its 100% data-driven approach, Fast Forward gives independent artists an equal chance to compete, allowing them the freedom to access their royalties and seize opportunities as they arise. We are proud to have delivered 50,000 advances to the DIY sector, and we look forward to delivering the next 50,000.”
